Get started
Sign in, create a project, link its folder and push your first version.
StemHaus is in a closed beta, so this guide describes the app as it works today. Anything that is still on the way is marked Coming.
What you need
- The StemHaus desktop app for Windows or macOS, which you get with a beta invitation.
- A project saved in a folder on your computer, in any DAW.
1. Sign in
Open StemHaus and choose Sign in. Your browser opens so you can sign in securely, and hands you back to the app when you are done.
The first time, StemHaus sets up your account and a workspace of your own. If you see Your account is still being set up, wait a moment and try again.
2. Create a project
On the Projects page, choose New project, give it a name of up to 80 characters, and choose Create project. If you have more than one workspace you can pick which one it belongs to.
3. Choose its folder
Open the project and choose Choose folder. Pick the folder your DAW saves this project in: the one that holds the project file and the audio that belongs to it.
Pick the project’s own folder, not a folder that holds many projects. StemHaus syncs everything inside the folder you choose, and the size of that folder counts against your plan.
You can change the folder later with Change folder.
4. Push your first version
Choose Push. You can describe what changed, such as New bass line, mixed the drums. The note is optional, but it is what your collaborators and your future self will read in the history.
While it works you see what it is doing: looking at your files, reading them, checking what is new, uploading, and saving the version. The first push uploads everything. After that, a push sends only what changed.
When it is done, the version appears under History, marked Latest and On this computer, and Inside this version shows what StemHaus read from your project.
Tip. Save in your DAW before you push. If a file changes while it is uploading you will see A file changed while it was uploading. Save, and push again.
What next
- Pushing and pulling: how updates move between you and your collaborators.
- Prepare your project: keep samples with the project so they travel with it.
